The VALUE COLLECTION 5-013-045 is a hand expansion reamer designed for precision hole sizing and finishing in metal fabrication and machining applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright polished coating, this reamer delivers clean, accurate bores with a nominal diameter of 0.5 inches and a maximum expansion capacity of 0.006 inches. The straight shank and straight flute geometry make it straightforward to use with a standard tap wrench or reamer handle. Six flutes provide even material removal and smooth surface finish. Overall length is 5.5 inches, with a 2-inch flute length suited for moderate-depth bores. Right-hand cut orientation is standard for conventional reaming operations.
This hand expansion reamer is used in tool rooms, maintenance shops, and light manufacturing environments where precise bore adjustment is required. The adjustable expansion range allows the operator to fine-tune hole diameter within tolerance without switching tools. Typical applications include fitting bearings, bushings, and precision pins in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is well suited for manual reaming operations where a machine spindle is not available or practical, and where incremental diameter control is essential to final fit.
Designed as an OEM-style hand expansion reamer for use with standard straight-shank tap wrenches and reamer handles in manual reaming applications within the 0.5 inch diameter range.
Hand expansion reamers are typically used by machinists and tool room technicians using a tap wrench or adjustable reamer handle. Secure the workpiece firmly before reaming and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the work material to extend tool life and improve surface finish. Expand the reamer in small increments and check bore diameter frequently to avoid exceeding the maximum 0.006 inch expansion limit, which can damage the flutes or distort the tool. Never force the reamer through an undersized hole; always pre-drill or bore to near-final size before reaming.
