The VALUE COLLECTION 461-0040 is a rectangle-ground tool bit blank machined from M35 cobalt high-speed steel. It is designed as a raw blank that machinists grind to a custom profile for turning, boring, or facing operations on manual lathes and similar machine tools. At 1/4 inch wide, 1 inch high, and 6 inches in overall length, this blank provides substantial material stock for shaping single-point cutting tools. M35 cobalt steel offers enhanced heat resistance and hardness retention compared to standard M2 high-speed steel, making it well suited for cutting harder workpiece materials at elevated speeds.
This tool bit blank is used in job shops, toolrooms, and production machining environments where operators grind their own cutting tools to match a specific application. It fits standard tool post holders sized for 1/4 inch shank tooling. The ground finish on all faces provides consistent dimensional accuracy, reducing the amount of stock removal needed before final geometry is applied. It is appropriate for ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications where cobalt-grade tooling is specified.
Designed as a standard tool bit blank for use in manual lathe tool posts and holders sized to accept 1/4 inch wide tooling.
Tool bit blanks are ground to final geometry by a qualified machinist using a bench or pedestal grinder equipped with an appropriate wheel. Always power down and lock out the grinding machine before adjusting the tool rest or workpiece fixture. Wear appropriate eye protection during all grinding operations. Verify finished tool geometry and clearance angles against the workpiece material specification before mounting in the tool post.
