The VALUE COLLECTION 438-209 is a Schedule 40 PVC pipe bushing designed to reduce a 1-1/2 inch female threaded port down to a 1/2 inch slip connection. End connections are Slip (spigot) on the male end and Female Iron Pipe Thread (FIPT) on the female end. The PVC construction resists corrosion and is well suited for low-pressure water distribution, irrigation, and drain applications. Plumbers and pipefitters install this bushing when transitioning between pipe sizes in a PVC system without introducing metal fittings into the line.
This bushing is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems, irrigation manifolds, and pool or spa piping where a size reduction from 1-1/2 inch to 1/2 inch is needed within a Schedule 40 PVC assembly. The Slip outlet accepts standard 1/2 inch PVC pipe for solvent-welding, while the FIPT end threads directly into a 1-1/2 inch female-threaded fitting or valve body.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install fitting for Schedule 40 PVC piping systems using standard 1-1/2 inch FIPT and 1/2 inch slip connections per ASTM D2466 dimensional standards.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters following local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off water supply and depressurize the line before making up any connections. Apply an approved PVC primer and solvent cement to the slip end per the cement manufacturer instructions; thread the FIPT end with PTFE tape or pipe thread sealant rated for PVC. Do not over-torque the threaded connection, as PVC threads can crack under excessive force.
