The VALUE COLLECTION 429-4012 is a 12-inch diameter, 4-jaw independent manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on engine lathes and manual turning centers. Each jaw moves independently, allowing the operator to center irregular, asymmetrical, or non-round workpieces that a scroll chuck cannot grip accurately. The body is cast iron construction with a plain back mount, making it adaptable to a range of lathe spindle configurations with an appropriate backplate. Included solid reversible jaws and a T-wrench make this a ready-to-use setup for machine shops and toolrooms. The through-hole diameter of 3.75 inches accommodates bar stock and shaft work through the spindle.
This chuck is suited for use in production machine shops, tool and die operations, maintenance shops, and vocational or industrial training environments. It is typically installed on manual engine lathes where workpieces require individual jaw adjustment for precise concentricity or offset turning. The plain back mount style requires a matching backplate machined to fit the specific lathe spindle nose, making it a flexible choice for shops that need to fit the chuck to multiple machine configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style manual lathe chuck for use on engine lathes accepting a plain back mount configuration with an appropriate machined backplate.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or machine tool technician. The lathe must be powered off and locked out before mounting or removing the chuck from the spindle. A properly fitted and faced backplate is required for plain back mount chucks; the backplate must be bored and threaded to match the specific lathe spindle nose before the chuck is mounted. Verify jaw seating and chuck runout with a dial indicator before commencing cutting operations.
