The VALUE COLLECTION 429-4010 is a 10-inch diameter, 4-jaw independent manual lathe chuck designed for precision workholding on metalworking lathes. The independent jaw design allows each jaw to be adjusted individually, making it well-suited for holding irregularly shaped, non-concentric, or off-center workpieces that a scroll chuck cannot grip reliably. The cast iron body measures 3.1563 inches in length and weighs 56 pounds. The plain back mount style requires a backing plate matched to the lathe spindle, giving the installer full control over final fitment and runout adjustment. A T-wrench is included for jaw actuation.
This chuck is intended for use on manual engine lathes and toolroom lathes in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and industrial production environments. The plain back configuration is common on mid-size and large lathes where the operator supplies or machines a custom adapter plate. With a through-hole diameter of 2.9375 inches, the chuck accommodates bar stock and shaft work passed through the spindle bore. Installation and setup are typically performed by a machinist or qualified lathe operator.
Designed as a plain back independent 4-jaw chuck for manual engine lathes and toolroom lathes accepting a 10-inch chuck with a plain back adapter plate. Specific spindle compatibility depends on the adapter plate machined or sourced by the installer.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with lathe chuck mounting procedures. The lathe spindle must be brought to a full stop and the machine locked out before mounting or removing the chuck. A properly machined adapter plate is required to mate the plain back to the lathe spindle nose. Due to the 56-pound weight of this chuck, use a chuck cradle or hoist during mounting to prevent damage to the spindle threads and injury to personnel.
