The VALUE COLLECTION 429-3008 is an 8-inch diameter, 3-jaw self-centering manual lathe chuck with a plain back mount, designed for general-purpose turning operations on manual lathes. The one-piece solid jaws lock workpieces concentrically without individual jaw adjustment, reducing setup time on round and hex stock. Cast iron construction provides the mass and rigidity needed to resist vibration under cutting loads. With an axial runout of 0.003 inches, the chuck delivers acceptable concentricity for a broad range of production and maintenance machining tasks. Weighing 37 pounds, installation requires proper rigging and a second technician or hoist for safe handling.
This chuck is suited for manual engine lathes in job shops, maintenance facilities, and light production environments. The plain back mount requires a lathe-specific adapter plate or direct backplate fitting machined to the spindle nose of the host machine. The 65 mm (approximately 2.56 inches) through-hole diameter accommodates bar stock feeding through the spindle. Typical applications include turning of shafts, bushings, pins, and similar cylindrical workpieces in both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or upgrade chuck for manual engine lathes accepting an 8-inch plain back mount configuration. A machined adapter backplate sized to the host spindle nose is required and not included.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with lathe spindle nose configurations. Disconnect and lock out electrical power to the lathe before mounting or removing any chuck. At 37 pounds, use a chuck cradle, hoist, or second person to prevent dropping during installation. Verify backplate fit, register seating, and fastener torque against the lathe manufacturer's specifications before returning the machine to service.
