The VALUE COLLECTION 40540 is a 3/8-16 x 3/8 inch knurled cup point set screw manufactured from Grade 8 alloy steel. Set screws are headless fasteners used to lock a component — such as a collar, gear, pulley, or sprocket — onto a shaft by applying direct clamping force. The knurled cup point bites into the mating surface, increasing resistance to rotation and axial movement. Drive is via a 3/16 inch hex key. This fastener meets ASME/ANSI B18.3 and ASTM F912 standards and is sold in a package of 25 pieces. Machinists, millwrights, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers.
These set screws are suited for general industrial and mechanical assembly applications where a flush or recessed fastener is required. Typical use cases include securing shaft-mounted components in motors, conveyor systems, and mechanical drives in both commercial and light industrial settings. The UNC thread form (3/8-16) provides broad compatibility with standard inch-series tapped holes.
Designed as a standard inch-series UNC set screw for use in any application with a 3/8-16 tapped hole requiring a knurled cup point headless fastener.
Installation is performed with a 3/16 inch hex key. De-energize or lock out any machinery before installing or adjusting set screws on rotating components. Ensure the mating shaft surface is clean and free of debris to allow proper cup point seating. Consult applicable mechanical codes or equipment manufacturer specifications for final torque requirements.
