The VALUE COLLECTION 40502 is a 6-32 x 1/4 inch alloy steel set screw with a knurled cup point, sold in a pack of 50. Set screws are headless fasteners used to secure a component — such as a pulley, collar, or gear — against a shaft by applying direct pressure at the point of contact. The knurled cup point bites into the mating surface to resist rotation and axial movement. Driven with a 1/16 inch hex key, this screw meets ASME/ANSI B18.3 and ASTM F912 standards. Grade 8 alloy steel provides the hardness and tensile strength required for demanding mechanical assemblies.
These set screws are suited for light-duty mechanical and electromechanical assemblies where a compact, headless fastener is needed. Common applications include motor shaft collars, fan hubs, small gearboxes, and bracket retention in HVAC equipment, electrical enclosures, and pump assemblies. The 6-32 UNC thread is a standard size found throughout commercial and residential equipment across multiple trades. The 50-piece pack quantity supports bench stock for service fleets and shop inventory programs.
Designed as a standard 6-32 UNC set screw for use in any mechanical assembly requiring a headless, hex-drive fastener with a knurled cup point in Grade 8 alloy steel.
Set screws of this type are typically installed by machinists, millwrights, or trade technicians using a 1/16 inch hex key or L-wrench. Ensure the mating shaft or surface is clean and free of debris before driving the screw. Do not exceed the rated torque range for 6-32 Grade 8 fasteners, and avoid using impact drivers, which can strip the hex socket. Where vibration is a concern, a thread-locking compound compatible with alloy steel is commonly applied.
