The VALUE COLLECTION 403022PR is a 1/4-20 UNC hex head cap screw designed for general-purpose fastening in mechanical assemblies, equipment maintenance, and fabrication work. Manufactured from Grade 2 steel with a zinc plating finish, this screw measures 1.5 inches under the head and features partial threading along its shank. The 1/4-20 thread designation indicates a 1/4-inch nominal diameter with 20 threads per inch, conforming to Unified National Coarse (UNC) standards. Installation requires a 7/16-inch wrench or socket. This fastener is a common workhorse for light- to medium-duty applications where a fully threaded screw is not required and a clamping grip zone on the shank is preferred.
This screw is suited for residential and light commercial mechanical work, equipment assembly, panel mounting, and general structural fastening where Grade 2 steel meets the load requirements. Partial threading allows the unthreaded shank to pass cleanly through a clearance hole in one member before engaging threads in the receiving material, providing a stronger clamping action in lap-joint and through-bolt applications. It is used regularly by HVAC technicians, plumbers, electricians, and equipment installers for bracket mounting, access panel securing, and general hardware repairs.
Designed as a standard inch-series UNC hex head cap screw compatible with any 1/4-20 threaded nut, insert, or tapped hole conforming to ASME B18.2.1 dimensional standards.
Installation is performed with a 7/16-inch open-end, box, or socket wrench. Verify that the receiving tapped hole or nut is clean and free of debris before driving the fastener. Do not overtighten Grade 2 fasteners beyond recommended torque ranges for the thread size, as this grade has lower proof load values than Grade 5 or Grade 8 hardware. Follow applicable mechanical codes and equipment manufacturer torque specifications when used in load-bearing or safety-critical assemblies.
