The VALUE COLLECTION 383-0042 is an AR-style single-point tool bit designed for metal cutting operations on lathes and boring machines. It features a solid carbide tip rated at C2 grade, which provides good wear resistance and edge retention on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and similar workpiece materials. The shank measures 7/16 inches in height and 7/16 inches in width, with an overall length of 3 inches. The right-hand cutting direction means the tool feeds from right to left across the workpiece. This tool bit is suited for machinists and tool-and-die tradespeople working in production or job-shop environments.
The 383-0042 follows the AR-7 industry standard designation, making it a direct fit for tool holders sized to that specification. It is applicable to square-shoulder turning, boring, and chamfering operations. The C2 carbide grade is a general-purpose grade commonly chosen for continuous cuts on cast iron, aluminum, and similar materials at moderate cutting speeds. It is appropriate for both manual engine lathes and semi-automatic turning setups in light to medium-duty machining applications.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard insert for tool holders conforming to the AR-7 industry standard specification.
Installation is performed by a machinist or tool-and-die technician. Ensure the lathe or boring machine is fully powered down and the spindle is locked before seating the tool bit in the holder. Secure the shank firmly with the appropriate set screws to the specified clamping torque for the tool holder manufacturer. Verify cutting direction and tool height relative to the workpiece centerline before resuming operation.
