The VALUE COLLECTION 38254 is a hammerlock cotter pin used to secure clevis pins, shaft assemblies, and linkage connections in mechanical and industrial applications. Manufactured from Grade 2 steel with a zinc-plated finish, this pin measures 3/16 inch in diameter and 3-1/2 inches in length. The zinc plating provides a base level of corrosion resistance suitable for general-duty indoor and sheltered outdoor use. Hammerlock-style cotter pins are installed by inserting the pin through a drilled hole and bending or locking the legs to prevent backing out under vibration or load. This style is a common fastener in HVAC linkage hardware, equipment frames, and light mechanical assemblies.
This cotter pin is suited for use in residential and light commercial mechanical systems where a reliable, removable fastening solution is required. Typical applications include securing pivot pins on damper linkages, control arm connections, and equipment frames. It is commonly installed by HVAC technicians, millwrights, and general maintenance personnel during equipment assembly or repair. The 3-1/2 inch length accommodates moderate material thickness, and the 3/16 inch diameter fits standard drilled-hole cotter pin bores in that size range.
Designed as a general-purpose hammerlock cotter pin for use in standard 3/16 inch cotter pin bore applications across mechanical, HVAC, and light industrial assemblies.
Installation is performed by inserting the pin through the aligned bore and securing the locking legs per the hammerlock design. Always de-energize and lock out equipment before servicing any fasteners on moving linkages or powered assemblies. Use appropriately sized pliers or pin installation tools to seat and lock the pin without damaging the plating. Follow all applicable equipment manufacturer guidelines and relevant safety codes when performing fastener replacement in the field.
