The VALUE COLLECTION 367-0201 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on fasteners and fittings. Made from high-speed steel (HSS), it delivers the hardness and wear resistance needed for repeated use on standard UNC threads. The 5/16-18 designation indicates a 5/16-inch diameter with 18 threads per inch, a common size in mechanical assemblies across HVAC, plumbing, and general trade work. The hex body allows a standard wrench or die stock to apply controlled torque during the chasing operation. Machinists, mechanics, and trade technicians install this type of die when bolt and stud threads are stripped or distorted and full replacement is not practical.
This rethreading die is suited for field and shop use wherever 5/16-18 UNC external threads need to be cleaned up or restored. Right-hand thread direction matches the standard fastener orientation found in the vast majority of mechanical and structural connections. It is appropriate for use on steel fasteners, threaded rod, and similar materials in residential and light commercial applications. Trades that regularly encounter corroded hardware, such as HVAC installation crews, plumbers, and general maintenance technicians, will find this a practical addition to a thread-repair kit.
Designed for use on 5/16-18 UNC right-hand external threads on steel fasteners, threaded rod, and similar workpieces requiring thread restoration.
Thread chasing should be performed by a qualified mechanic or trade technician familiar with thread repair procedures. Before starting, clean the damaged threads of debris, rust, and old thread-locking compound. Apply cutting oil to the die and workpiece to reduce friction and extend die life. Follow standard thread-chasing practice by advancing the die in short increments and backing off periodically to clear chips.
