The VALUE COLLECTION 366-0161 is a hex rethreading die designed to restore damaged or corroded external threads on fasteners and threaded rod. It is sized for 1/4-20 thread, which denotes a 1/4-inch nominal diameter with 20 threads per inch, following the Unified National Coarse (UNC) standard. The left-hand thread direction makes it the correct tool for recutting left-hand threaded fasteners, which are commonly found in specific mechanical assemblies where reverse-thread fastening is required. Constructed from carbon steel, this die delivers adequate hardness and durability for rethreading work on standard steel and softer metal fasteners. Licensed mechanics, machinists, and maintenance technicians use this die as part of thread repair and restoration work.
This rethreading die is suited for shop and field use wherever left-hand UNC 1/4-20 threads need to be cleaned, chased, or restored. Typical applications include repair of damaged bolt or stud threads on equipment where left-hand fasteners are specified, such as certain shaft and rotating-component assemblies. The hex body design allows use with a standard wrench or die holder, making it adaptable to both bench and in-place repair scenarios. It is packaged individually and is appropriate for both professional trade use and maintenance operations.
Designed for use on external left-hand UNC 1/4-20 threaded fasteners, studs, and threaded rod where thread restoration is required.
Thread chasing and rethreading work should be performed by a qualified machinist or maintenance technician familiar with thread standards and cutting tool use. Ensure the fastener or workpiece is properly secured before applying the die. Apply appropriate cutting fluid to extend die life and improve thread quality. Inspect the restored thread with a mating nut before returning the fastener to service.
