The VALUE COLLECTION 353-0512-01 is a button socket cap screw designed for applications requiring a low-profile, high-strength fastener. Manufactured from alloy steel with a black oxide coating, this screw measures 3/4 inch under the head and uses a 5/16-18 UNC thread form. It is driven by a Torx Plus IP40 drive, which provides improved torque transfer and reduces driver cam-out compared to standard hex socket drives. With a hardness rating of 39-44 HRC and a Class 3A thread fit, this fastener meets the dimensional and mechanical requirements of ANSI/ASME B18.3 and ASTM F835. It is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and fabricators across industrial and mechanical assembly applications.
This button socket cap screw suits applications where a standard hex socket head would protrude too far or interfere with adjacent components. The low-profile button head is well suited to machine guards, fixtures, enclosures, and structural assemblies where clearance is limited. The black oxide finish provides mild corrosion resistance and reduces surface light reflection, making it a common choice in tooling, jigs, and equipment housings. Right-hand thread direction and fully threaded shank allow for straightforward installation in standard tapped holes.
Designed as a standard replacement or new-installation fastener for any tapped hole or threaded insert accepting a 5/16-18 UNC thread, conforming to ANSI/ASME B18.3 dimensional standards.
Installation is performed with a Torx Plus IP40 driver bit; do not substitute a standard Torx T40 bit, as the IP profile differs and may damage the drive recess. Verify that the mating tapped hole meets 5/16-18 UNC Class 2B or 3B tolerances before final assembly. Apply appropriate thread lubricant or thread-locking compound as required by the assembly specification. Follow torque values specified in the applicable engineering drawing or fastener standard, as no torque value is published in the product data.
