The VALUE COLLECTION 34279 is a 7/8-9 UNC hex lock nut with a nylon insert locking mechanism, constructed from Grade 2 steel with a zinc-plated finish. The nylon insert deforms around mating threads when driven down, creating prevailing torque that resists loosening from vibration and dynamic loads without the need for thread-locking compounds. At 63/64 inches tall with a 1-1/4 inch width across flats, this fastener fits standard 1-1/4 inch hex tooling. Right-hand thread direction follows standard UNC convention. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, electricians, and general mechanical trades rely on this nut type for securing equipment, brackets, and structural assemblies where vibration resistance is required.
This hex lock nut is suited for general-purpose mechanical fastening applications in residential and light commercial construction, equipment mounting, HVAC structural assemblies, electrical panel and enclosure hardware, and plumbing system support structures. The zinc plating provides a baseline level of corrosion resistance for indoor and sheltered installations. It is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 25 pieces, making it appropriate for job-site bulk procurement or maintenance stock replenishment.
Designed for use with 7/8-9 UNC right-hand threaded bolts and studs. Suitable for general mechanical fastening where a standard prevailing-torque hex lock nut with nylon insert is specified.
Install and remove using a standard 1-1/4 inch open-end wrench, box wrench, or socket. Nylon insert lock nuts are rated for single-use in critical joints — reuse may reduce prevailing torque effectiveness, so replacement is recommended after disassembly in vibration-critical applications. Always de-energize or shut down equipment before servicing fasteners on electrical enclosures or mechanical systems. Follow applicable codes and equipment manufacturer torque guidelines for the assembly being serviced.
