The VALUE COLLECTION 31840 is a 1/4-20 UNC hex head thread cutting screw designed for fastening applications where a pre-tapped hole is not available. The Type F point features a tapered thread end with cutting edges that form mating threads in a drilled or punched hole during installation. Constructed from Grade 2 steel with a zinc-plated finish, this screw resists light corrosion and provides reliable holding strength in metal-to-metal and metal-to-plastic assemblies. The hex head accepts a standard hex wrench or nut driver for consistent drive torque. This fastener is commonly installed by maintenance technicians, electricians, HVAC service professionals, and plumbers in equipment assembly and panel work.
The 31840 is suited for light- to medium-duty fastening tasks in residential and commercial trade applications. Typical uses include securing sheet metal panels, HVAC equipment housings, electrical enclosures, and similar structural components where thread cutting into the base material is required. The 1/4-20 UNC thread size is a widely used coarse-thread standard, making this screw compatible with common pre-drilled clearance holes in trade equipment. Sold individually but subject to a minimum order quantity of 50 pieces per order.
Designed as a standard 1/4-20 UNC Type F thread cutting screw suitable for use in sheet metal, light-gauge steel, and similar base materials common in HVAC, electrical, and plumbing equipment assemblies.
Install using a hex driver or nut driver sized for a 1/4-inch hex head. Ensure the base material is drilled or punched to the correct clearance diameter for a 1/4-20 Type F thread cutting application before driving. Apply consistent, steady torque to avoid stripping the newly formed threads in the base material. De-energize and lock out any electrical or mechanical equipment before fastening panels or enclosures per applicable NFPA 70 and OSHA lockout-tagout requirements.
