The VALUE COLLECTION 315-1256 is a round threading die designed to cut external threads on rod, bolt blanks, and round stock. It produces a 5/8-28 thread profile in accordance with the UNS (Unified National Special) thread standard. Manufactured from high-speed steel, the die holds cutting edge hardness under the heat generated during threading operations. The adjustable design allows the technician to dial in thread fit or take light finish passes after an initial cut. Right-hand thread direction is standard for the vast majority of fastener and fitting applications. This die is used by machinists, pipefitters, maintenance technicians, and tool and die workers.
The 315-1256 suits applications where a 5/8-28 UNS external thread is required, including precision fastener fabrication, custom bolt production, and repair of damaged threads on shafts or studs. The 5/8-28 thread form — a 5/8-inch nominal diameter with 28 threads per inch — appears in specialized mechanical and firearms-related assemblies where a finer pitch than the standard UNS coarse series is specified. This die is appropriate for bench work using a die stock handle or a threading machine with the correct collet or holder for round dies.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or equivalent round threading die for use in standard die stock handles and round-die threading machine fixtures accepting dies of matching nominal diameter.
Round dies are installed and removed by hand tool trades and machinists using an appropriate die stock handle sized for the die outside diameter. Secure the workpiece firmly in a vise before threading to prevent movement during the cut. Apply cutting oil generously to the die and workpiece to extend die life and produce clean thread form. Back the die off periodically to break chips and prevent binding, particularly in steel or stainless stock.
