The VALUE COLLECTION 314-4146 is a round threading die designed to cut external left-hand threads on cylindrical stock. Made from high-speed steel (HSS), it holds an edge under the heat and friction typical of production threading work. The die covers a 5/16-24 thread specification conforming to the Unified National Fine (UNF) standard, with a 1-inch outside diameter that fits standard die stocks and holders of that size. The adjustable design allows the operator to set cutting depth for a first-pass rough cut or a final finishing pass, giving machinists and toolmakers control over fit and thread tolerance.
This die is suited for metalworking applications where a left-hand thread is required — common in applications where counter-rotation would loosen a standard right-hand fastener, such as certain spindle assemblies, turnbuckles, and specialty mechanical components. It is used in machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and tool rooms. The 5/16-24 UNF designation makes it appropriate for fine-pitch threading on smaller-diameter rod or bolt stock in both production and one-off fabrication contexts.
Designed for use in standard 1-inch round die stocks and holders. Cuts 5/16-24 UNF left-hand external threads on compatible stock material.
This die is installed and operated by machinists, toolmakers, and skilled tradespeople using a compatible die stock or holder. Secure the die firmly in the holder before use and verify the set screw engages the adjustment slot. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat and improve thread finish. Inspect the die for chips or edge damage before each use.
