The VALUE COLLECTION 314-1972 is a round threading die designed to cut external M48x2 metric fine threads on round stock. Machined from high-speed steel (HSS), this die delivers the hardness and heat resistance required for threading operations on steel, stainless, aluminum, and similar materials. The adjustable design allows the technician to set cutting diameter within a limited range, enabling controlled stock removal and thread fit adjustment. At 3 inches in outside diameter, it seats in standard round die stocks of the same size. Right-hand thread direction is the default for most metric fastener applications. This die is used by machinists, tool and die technicians, and maintenance professionals performing threading on large-diameter fasteners or threaded rod.
This die is suited for threading operations where M48x2 metric fine thread specification is required. Typical applications include fabrication of large-diameter threaded fasteners, repair threading on hydraulic cylinders, industrial shafting, and heavy equipment components. The M48x2 designation indicates a 48 mm nominal thread diameter with a 2 mm pitch, which is the metric fine standard for that diameter. It is used in both production and maintenance-repair settings where precise metric fine thread geometry must be maintained on external surfaces.
Designed for use in standard 3 inch round die stocks. Cuts M48x2 metric fine right-hand external threads. Verify die stock compatibility by confirming the 3 inch OD and set-screw configuration before use.
This die is installed by a machinist or toolroom technician into a compatible round die stock. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before beginning the threading pass. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend die life and improve thread finish. Inspect the die for chipping or wear before each use, as damaged cutting edges will produce out-of-tolerance threads.
