The VALUE COLLECTION 314-1010 is a round threading die designed to cut external threads on cylindrical workpieces. It produces 3-48 UNC right-hand threads in a single pass and is adjustable for fine-tuning thread fit and cutting clearance. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS), the die holds a cutting edge under the heat and friction generated during threading operations. It is used by machinists, tool and die makers, maintenance technicians, and skilled tradespeople who need to cut or restore small-diameter machine screw threads by hand or with a die stock.
This die is suited for threading small fastener-diameter stock in general metalworking, maintenance, repair, and fabrication applications. The 3-48 designation indicates a No. 3 diameter screw with 48 threads per inch, a fine-pitch UNC designation common in precision instrument work, electronics hardware, and light mechanical assemblies. The adjustable design allows the operator to make a preliminary cut and then adjust the die for a closer, finished thread fit without removing and repositioning the workpiece.

A licensed machinist or experienced technician should secure the workpiece firmly before threading to prevent rotation or deflection during the cut. Use a proper die stock matched to the outside diameter of this round die to maintain alignment and apply even cutting pressure. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend die life and improve thread finish. Do not force the die if it binds — back off to break chips before continuing.
