The VALUE COLLECTION 3-555-030P is a solid dead center designed for use in lathe tailstocks and spindles where a fixed, non-rotating center point is required. Machined from steel with a standard point style, this dead center features a 6MT Morse taper shank for secure, self-locking installation in compatible machine tapers. The head diameter and point diameter are both 2.51 inches, with a tip diameter of 0.71 inches. At 13 pounds, this is a heavy-duty center suited for large-bore turning applications. It is installed by machinists and lathe operators in production and job-shop environments.
This solid dead center is suited for use in center-driven turning operations on heavy or large-diameter workpieces where a live center is not appropriate or where rigidity takes priority over reduced friction. The 6MT Morse taper shank fits machine spindles and tailstocks designed for No. 6 Morse taper tooling, which is common on larger engine lathes and heavy turning centers. The standard point geometry is appropriate for workpieces with standard center-drilled holes.
Designed for machine spindles and tailstocks that accept a No. 6 Morse taper (6MT) tooling interface, typically found on large engine lathes and heavy turning equipment.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or lathe operator. Power down and lock out the lathe before inserting or removing the dead center from the tailstock or spindle. Clean the Morse taper bore and shank thoroughly before insertion to ensure full seating and prevent taper damage. Because this is a solid dead center, the workpiece must be lubricated at the contact point to reduce heat buildup during cutting operations.
