The VALUE COLLECTION 262-2108 is a standard lathe mandrel designed to hold workpieces concentrically during turning, grinding, or finishing operations. The mandrel features a 1-1/8 inch face diameter and an overall length of 7-1/2 inches, making it suitable for supporting hollow workpieces between centers on a lathe. At 2.12 pounds, it provides solid mass for stable rotation. This type of tooling is a standard fixture in machine shops and is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals performing precision turning work.
Standard lathe mandrels are used in machine shop environments where a workpiece with a bore must be held and rotated about a true center axis. This mandrel is appropriate for bench lathes and production lathes handling parts that require concentric outside-diameter turning relative to an existing interior bore. It is suited for both job-shop and light production settings.
Designed as a standard between-centers lathe mandrel suitable for use on conventional engine lathes and bench lathes that accept mandrel tooling with a 1-1/8 inch face diameter.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist. Before mounting the mandrel, ensure the lathe is fully powered down and the spindle is locked. The mandrel is seated between lathe centers using a press fit into the workpiece bore — never drive the workpiece onto the mandrel with excessive force, as this can damage the taper or distort the part. Verify center alignment before beginning any turning or grinding operation.
