The VALUE COLLECTION 262-2032 is a standard lathe mandrel used to hold and drive workpieces between centers during turning, grinding, or finishing operations. The mandrel features a 0.5 inch face diameter and an overall length of 5 inches, making it suited for small to medium bore workpieces that require concentric machining. Machinists and tool room operators install this type of mandrel when a workpiece must be rotated on its own bore axis for outside-diameter turning or cylindrical grinding. It is a direct-drive tooling component and is used with a lathe dog and faceplate drive arrangement.
This mandrel is appropriate for general machine shop and tool room use where a solid, press-fit arbor style mandrel is required. It is sized for workpieces with a 0.5 inch bore and is suited to light-duty turning and grinding operations on a manual engine lathe or cylindrical grinder. The compact 5 inch overall length keeps overhang low when working with short-bore parts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard tooling addition for engine lathes and cylindrical grinders that accept between-center mandrel drive setups with a 0.5 inch bore workpiece.
A licensed machinist or qualified tool room operator should install this mandrel. Power off and lock out the lathe or grinder before mounting the mandrel between centers. The workpiece bore should be clean and properly sized before pressing onto the mandrel taper. Do not exceed the lathe's rated center-to-center capacity or recommended spindle speed for mandrel-driven operations.
