The VALUE COLLECTION 231-4734 is a steel R8 collet designed for use with Bridgeport-style vertical milling machines and other equipment that accepts the R8 spindle taper. This collet holds 17/32-inch diameter tooling and features a 7/16-20 drawbar thread for secure engagement with the machine spindle. It is manufactured from steel for durability in production and job-shop environments. A total indicator runout (TIR) of 0.0007 inches supports accurate, repeatable tool holding across a range of milling operations. This collet is a standard replacement or spare for machinists, tool-and-die makers, and machine shop technicians.
The 231-4734 is suited for use in vertical knee mills and similar machines equipped with R8 spindles. It accepts 17/32-inch shank cutting tools, including end mills and other rotating tooling with that shank diameter. This is a common collet size in both manual and CNC-retrofit knee-mill setups found in production shops, maintenance departments, and trade training environments. Installation and use require a compatible R8 drawbar threaded 7/16-20.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or machine tool technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before inserting or removing any collet from the spindle. Insert the collet into the spindle taper before threading the drawbar to avoid cross-threading or collet damage. Torque the drawbar by hand until snug, then tighten with a wrench while holding the spindle brake — do not overtighten, as this can damage the collet bore or spindle taper.
