The VALUE COLLECTION 230-4376 is a 5C step collet designed for use in lathe and machining workholding applications. Machined from steel, this collet features a 6-inch head diameter and a 1-1/8-inch head thickness, making it suited for gripping larger-diameter workpieces that standard collets cannot accommodate. The step-style design allows the collet to seat against a step or shoulder on the workpiece, providing secure, repeatable clamping for turning and grinding operations. The internal thread size is 1.041 inches at 24 threads per inch, and the external thread size is 1.242 inches at 20 threads per inch. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and CNC lathe operators are the primary installers of this component.
This 5C step collet is intended for use in 5C-compatible lathes, collet closers, and indexing fixtures found in production machining, toolroom, and job-shop environments. It is well suited for workpieces requiring a positive step-contact grip rather than a bore-grip approach. The 5/16-inch pilot hole (0.3125 inches) accommodates a pilot pin or locating feature for precise workpiece positioning. Typical applications include turning, milling, and grinding setups where a standard 5C collet cannot accommodate the workpiece geometry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit component for 5C collet-compatible lathes, collet closers, and indexing fixtures using the standard 5C collet system.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the lathe or collet closer spindle before installing or removing any collet. Ensure threads are clean and free of chips or debris before seating the collet to prevent thread damage or improper seating. Verify that the collet closer draw tube torque and clamping force are within the equipment manufacturer specifications before running the spindle.
