The Value Collection 22515 is a free-running helical wire insert designed to restore or reinforce internal threads in metal components. Manufactured from stainless steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this insert installs into a pre-tapped host material to provide a hardened, corrosion-resistant thread form. The 7/16-14 UNC thread size and 0.656-inch overall length make it a direct-fit solution for standard coarse-thread applications. At a 1-1/2D length-to-diameter ratio with 7-3/8 free coils, it delivers consistent thread engagement across a range of base materials including aluminum, cast iron, and softer alloys. Sold in a pack of 10. Installation requires a matching STI tap and insert tool.
This insert is suited for maintenance, repair, and manufacturing applications where stripped or worn threads need to be rebuilt to original specifications. Common install scenarios include fastener repairs on machinery, automotive components, structural assemblies, and industrial equipment. The tanged design allows for controlled installation using a standard insert driver. Once seated, the tang is broken off flush with the host material surface. Suitable for both light-duty and moderate-load threaded connections where stainless steel corrosion resistance is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or repair insert for applications requiring a 7/16-14 UNC internal thread in parent materials such as aluminum, magnesium, cast iron, or other metals where thread reinforcement is needed.
Installation is performed by a machinist or qualified technician using an STI-specified tap to prepare the host bore, followed by a dedicated insert driver tool. Always power down or de-energize any equipment before drilling or tapping operations. The tang must be broken off after installation using a tang break-off tool; do not leave the tang in the assembly. Follow applicable thread repair procedures per manufacturer and applicable industry standards for torque and joint integrity.
