The VALUE COLLECTION 215038MSC is a 1/4-20 carriage bolt designed for applications requiring a smooth, round head with a square neck that resists rotation during assembly. The bolt is fully threaded along its 3/4-inch length under head, conforming to UNC thread standards and meeting SAE J429 Grade 8 requirements. Grade 8 alloy steel construction delivers high tensile strength suitable for structural and heavy-duty fastening work. The uncoated bright finish means no coating interference with tight tolerance assemblies. This SKU is sold in a package quantity of 100 bolts, making it appropriate for contractors, maintenance crews, and production shops consuming fasteners in volume.
Carriage bolts of this specification are commonly used in wood-to-metal connections, equipment frames, trailer assemblies, and general structural fabrication where a tamper-resistant, low-profile head is required. The square neck seats into a pre-drilled square hole or bites into wood fiber to prevent spin-out during nut tightening. The 1/4-20 UNC thread is one of the most widely used coarse-thread fastener sizes in North American trade and maintenance work, fitting standard hex nuts, flange nuts, and wing nuts of the same thread designation.
Designed for use with standard 1/4-20 UNC hex nuts, coupling nuts, and washers in wood, metal, and composite assemblies requiring a round-head, square-neck fastener per SAE J429 Grade 8 specification.
Install carriage bolts by inserting through a clearance hole sized for the shank diameter and seating the square neck fully before applying a nut and washer on the back side. In wood applications, draw the nut down until the square neck pulls flush and locks; in metal applications, a square punched or broached hole is required to prevent rotation. Always use a hardened flat washer under the nut when bearing against soft or oversized holes to prevent pull-through. Follow applicable structural or equipment manufacturer torque specifications for Grade 8 fasteners when a specific clamp load is required.
