The VALUE COLLECTION 20914 is a mechanics-length drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal and ferrous materials. It measures 9/32 inch (0.2812 inch) in diameter with a 3-3/4 inch overall length and a 2-1/4 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point reduces walking on entry and lowers the thrust required to start a hole. Manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish, this bit is built to handle demanding shop and field applications. It features a Weldon flat shank with three flats for secure chuck engagement and reduced slip under torque. The spiral flute geometry is standard regular type with a parallel web configuration and web thinning for improved chip evacuation.
This drill bit is suited for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces. The mechanics length format offers a compact overall length that is well suited to close-quarter drilling in fabrication, maintenance, and repair work. Machinists, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance technicians commonly use this bit size when drilling pilot holes, clearance holes, or tap-prep holes in metal assemblies. Right-hand cut geometry is standard for use in conventional drill presses, magnetic drills, and hand-held power drills.
Designed as a general-purpose mechanics-length drill bit compatible with any standard drill press, magnetic base drill, or handheld power drill equipped with a chuck or collet accepting a Weldon flat shank. Suitable for use on carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and general steel workpieces.
Install this bit in a Weldon-style chuck or collet and confirm all set screws are fully engaged against the flat before operation. Secure the workpiece properly before drilling to prevent movement and reduce injury risk. Use appropriate cutting fluid when drilling stainless steel or high alloy materials to extend bit life and manage heat. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace the bit if point geometry is compromised.
