The VALUE COLLECTION 20905 is a mechanics-length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose hole drilling in metal and ferrous materials. It measures 9/64 inch (0.1406 inch decimal) in diameter with a 2-5/8 inch overall length and a 1-9/16 inch flute length. The 135-degree split point geometry reduces walking on entry and lowers thrust force, which is especially useful when drilling into harder alloys without a center punch. The bit is made from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish to reduce friction and provide basic corrosion resistance. The straight-cylindrical shank fits standard three-jaw drill chucks without modification.
This bit is suited for drilling carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and other ferrous stock. Mechanics-length bits are shorter than jobber-length bits, giving the user better rigidity and control in tight work envelopes — common in machine shop work, automotive service bays, fabrication, and field repair scenarios. Right-hand cut with a regular spiral and parallel web configuration. Web thinning reduces cutting resistance at the chisel edge for cleaner starts in harder material.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or supplemental mechanics drill bit compatible with any standard three-jaw drill chuck accepting a straight-cylindrical shank. Rated for use in carbon steel, cast iron, high alloy steel, high tensile strength alloy, stainless steel, and similar ferrous workpiece materials.
Secure the shank fully in the drill chuck and tighten all jaws evenly before operation. Use appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant when drilling stainless steel or high alloy steel to manage heat and extend bit life. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured securely before drilling. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use — a dull or chipped bit increases heat and can damage the workpiece or cause bit breakage.
