The VALUE COLLECTION 20669 is a spiral point tap designed for cutting unified fine threads in through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap produces clean 1/2-20 UNF threads with consistent dimensional accuracy. The plug chamfer configuration distributes cutting load across the leading threads, making it suitable for moderate-depth through holes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The H3 thread limit provides controlled oversize tolerance to account for material spring-back, which is critical when threading steel or stainless. Machinists and maintenance technicians use this tap for repair work, fabrication, and production threading where a standard plug style is the preferred starting point.
This tap is used in machine shop, maintenance, and repair environments where 1/2-20 UNF through-hole threads are required. It suits drill press, lathe, and tapping machine applications as well as hand-tapping with a tap wrench. Right-hand cutting direction is standard for conventional clockwise thread engagement. The 3-flute geometry channels chips forward through the hole, keeping the cutting zone clear during operation. Typical materials include mild steel, aluminum, brass, and similar machinable metals where UNF thread standards apply.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use spiral point tap for applications requiring 1/2-20 UNF right-hand internal threads in through-hole configurations.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping head, or machine spindle. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid for the material being tapped to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the tap enters the hole square to prevent thread damage or tap breakage. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use, particularly when working in harder materials.
