The VALUE COLLECTION -20550-5 is a single-end, square-profile end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it offers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The cutter measures 5/16 inches in diameter with a 3/4-inch length of cut and a 2-1/2-inch overall length. The 30-degree helix angle and four-flute configuration promote smooth chip evacuation and a consistent surface finish. Center-cutting geometry allows the tool to plunge directly into a workpiece, adding flexibility to its range of milling applications.
This end mill is suited for conventional milling operations including slotting, profiling, and peripheral cuts in light-to-medium-duty machining setups. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders commonly found on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute direction are standard for conventional spindle rotation. The regular-length configuration keeps the tool rigid during cuts, reducing deflection in typical shop setups. It is sold individually and is appropriate for job shops, maintenance machining, and prototype work.
Designed as a standard replacement or general-use single-end square end mill compatible with collet chucks, end mill holders, and milling adapters accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter on manual and CNC milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the collet or holder to the minimum engagement depth recommended by the holder manufacturer to ensure secure clamping. Inspect the cutting edges and coating for damage before use; a chipped or worn TiN-coated end mill should not be recoated in the field. Follow machine-specific feeds, speeds, and depth-of-cut guidelines for HSS tooling when programming or dialing in manual cuts.
