The VALUE COLLECTION 20491 is a round threading die designed to cut external metric threads on rod, bolt stock, and round bar stock. It measures 1 inch in outside diameter and cuts an M12x1.75 thread profile — a metric coarse pitch commonly used in automotive, structural, and general mechanical fastening applications. The die is manufactured from high-speed steel (HSS), which maintains cutting edge hardness at elevated temperatures generated during threading operations. An adjustable design allows the technician to fine-tune thread fit and take multiple passes for cleaner thread form. This die is suited for use in a standard round die stock holder by machinists, maintenance mechanics, and tradespeople.
This die is used wherever new M12x1.75 metric coarse threads need to be cut or damaged threads need to be restored on externally threaded fasteners and rod. Typical applications include fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, plumbing rough-in involving metric-threaded fittings, and HVAC equipment assembly where metric fasteners are specified. The right-hand thread direction matches the standard convention for the vast majority of metric fastener applications. It is appropriate for both bench-mounted die stock work and handheld threading in accessible locations.
Designed for use in standard 1 inch round die stock holders compatible with round adjustable dies. Cuts metric coarse right-hand threads per standard metric thread specifications.
Threading dies should be installed in a properly sized die stock holder before use. Secure the workpiece in a vise and apply cutting oil liberally to the die and workpiece to reduce heat and extend die life. Back the die off periodically during threading to break chips and prevent binding. Inspect the die for wear or chipping before each use, as a damaged die will produce out-of-tolerance threads.
