The VALUE COLLECTION 167-003NL is a dielectric union designed to isolate dissimilar metals in a piping system, preventing galvanic corrosion at the joint. It connects copper and steel or iron pipe runs by electrically separating the two sides of the union while maintaining a watertight seal. This fitting accepts a 1/2 inch female NPT connection on one end, a 1/2 inch male NPT connection on the other end, and a 1/2 inch sweat connection, giving installers flexibility in how they make up the joint. Plumbers and pipefitters install this type of fitting wherever a copper water supply line meets a threaded steel or cast iron component, such as at a water heater, boiler, or meter connection.
This dielectric union is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing applications. Typical install scenarios include water heater connections, boiler supply and return piping, and any transition point where copper tubing meets ferrous threaded pipe. The sweat end accommodates standard 1/2 inch copper tube, and the threaded ends follow NPT taper thread standards. Its compact dimensions make it practical in tight mechanical rooms and utility closets where clearance around the fitting is limited.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation dielectric union for residential and light commercial plumbing systems requiring a 1/2 inch NPT-to-sweat transition between copper and ferrous pipe.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) and applicable local codes. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before disassembling any existing union or fitting. Use appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape on NPT connections and apply proper soldering technique on the sweat end per accepted trade practice. Do not over-tighten the union nut, as distorting the dielectric sleeve or washer will compromise the electrical isolation the fitting is designed to provide.
