The VALUE COLLECTION 141111PR is a 1/4-28 half dog point set screw manufactured from Grade 8 alloy steel. Set screws are headless fasteners threaded along their full length and tightened flush with or below a surface to secure a component — such as a collar, gear, or pulley — against a shaft. The half dog point provides a short cylindrical tip that seats into a mating hole or detent, resisting rotational and axial movement. This screw measures 1/4 inch in both diameter and overall length and is driven with a 1/8-inch hex key. It is installed by maintenance technicians and mechanical assemblers wherever positive shaft retention is required.
This fastener is suited for mechanical assemblies in industrial, commercial, and trade applications where a secure, low-profile retention point is needed. The half dog point style is commonly specified when the mating shaft or hub includes a drilled detent hole for positive indexing and holding. The 1/4-28 Unified Fine Thread (UNF) provides finer thread engagement and greater resistance to loosening under vibration compared to coarse-thread equivalents. Typical installations include drive shafts, encoder wheels, fan hubs, and similar rotating or sliding assemblies.
Designed as a standard 1/4-28 UNF half dog point set screw conforming to ASME/ANSI B18.3 and ASTM F912, suitable for use in any assembly specifying this thread size, point type, and drive configuration.
Installation is performed with a 1/8-inch hex key or ball-end driver; ensure the tool is fully seated before applying torque to avoid rounding the drive. Power down and de-energize all rotating equipment before servicing any shaft-mounted component. Verify the mating shaft or hub includes a properly sized detent hole aligned to accept the half dog point. Do not substitute a cup or cone point in applications specifically designed for a dog point, as point geometry affects holding performance.
