The VALUE COLLECTION 121145PR is a Grade 8 alloy steel set screw with a cone point tip and hex socket drive, sized 5/16-18 x 1/2 inches overall length. Cone point set screws are designed to bite into or permanently indent a mating surface, providing strong resistance to rotational and axial movement. This fastener accepts a 5/32-inch hex key and conforms to ASME/ANSI B18.3 and ASTM F912 standards, making it a reliable choice for precision mechanical assemblies. Electricians, millwrights, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians regularly use set screws of this type when securing collars, couplings, pulleys, and shaft-mounted components.
This set screw is suited for both residential and light commercial mechanical assemblies where a permanent or semi-permanent locking action against a shaft or bore surface is required. The cone point geometry concentrates clamping force at a single point, making it particularly effective on hardened shafts or in applications where the fastener will not be frequently removed. It is commonly installed in blower wheel hubs, fan blade collars, motor shaft couplings, and similar rotating drive components found in HVAC, plumbing, and general mechanical systems.
Designed as a standard 5/16-18 UNC set screw for use in any tapped hole or threaded collar meeting that thread specification. Suitable for blower wheel hubs, shaft collars, couplings, and pulleys requiring a cone point fastener.
Installation requires a 5/32-inch hex key or Allen wrench. De-energize and lock out any rotating equipment before installing or removing set screws per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Cone point set screws create a permanent indentation in the mating surface and are not intended for frequent removal. Torque to the fastener manufacturer recommendation for the thread size and grade; do not over-drive, as this can damage the hex socket or the mating shaft surface.
