Manufactured to ANSI insert code SPG422 and ISO code SPG120308, this insert features a TiC and TiN multilayer coating applied via CVD process, providing wear resistance and extended tool life across a range of workpiece materials. The insert geometry is square (S-shape) with a 90-degree included angle, an 11-degree relief angle, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch (0.0315 inch) corner radius. The flat-top chip breaker design and positive side clearance suit finishing and semi-finishing operations. Machinists and tooling technicians specify this insert for general-purpose turning where coating durability and consistent edge geometry are required.
This insert is suited for turning applications on ferrous metals and stainless steels, corresponding to ISO primary workpiece material codes M and P. It is used in production and job-shop environments on CNC turning centers and manual lathes where a clamped, positive-clearance insert is appropriate. The CVD-coated carbide grade TCN55 covers material grades C5, C6, and C7, making it applicable across a broad range of steel and stainless turning scenarios.
