The VALUE COLLECTION 101718BR is a 1-8 UNC x 2-inch cup point set screw machined from Grade 8 alloy steel. Set screws are fully threaded fasteners with no head — they are driven flush into a tapped hole using a hex key to secure a collar, gear, pulley, or shaft component against rotation or axial movement. The 101718BR uses a 9/16-inch hex drive and a cup point tip, which bites into the mating surface to resist loosening under vibration or torque load. This fastener meets ASME/ANSI B18.3 and ASTM F912 standards. Installation requires a standard 9/16-inch hex key or Allen driver. Machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians are the typical installers.
This set screw is suited for industrial and mechanical assembly applications where a headless fastener profile is required. Common install scenarios include securing shaft collars on rotating equipment, locking gears or pulleys to keyed shafts, and fixing components in tight clearance housings where a headed fastener cannot be used. The cup point geometry creates a ring impression in the mating surface, providing strong axial and rotational holding force. Grade 8 alloy steel provides higher tensile strength than standard steel fasteners, making it appropriate for moderate to high-load mechanical assemblies in manufacturing, HVAC equipment, and industrial power transmission applications.
Designed for use in any tapped 1-8 UNC threaded hole requiring a headless set screw with cup point geometry. Suitable as a replacement or spare in shaft collar, pulley, gear, and mechanical assembly applications across industrial and commercial equipment.
Set screws of this type are typically installed by machinists, millwrights, or mechanical maintenance technicians. De-energize and lock out all equipment before removing or installing shaft-mounted hardware. Use a properly sized 9/16-inch hex key to drive the fastener — an undersized driver can round the socket. Torque the fastener according to the equipment manufacturer specifications for the mating assembly; do not exceed the rated capacity of the tapped hole material.
