The VALUE COLLECTION 07193 is a D-2 air hardening tool steel drill rod used in toolmaking, die making, and precision machining applications. This round bar stock is produced from D-2 tool steel, a high-carbon, high-chromium alloy known for its excellent wear resistance and dimensional stability during heat treatment. The air hardening characteristic of D-2 minimizes distortion through the hardening cycle, making it a reliable choice for fabricating punches, dies, gauges, and cutting tools. At 1.5 inches in diameter and 36 inches in length, this rod provides substantial stock for machining to finished dimensions. Machinists, tool and die makers, and industrial fabricators work with this material regularly.
This drill rod is suited for shop floor and production environments where precise, wear-resistant tooling is required. D-2 air hardening steel is commonly used in cold-work tooling applications including blanking dies, forming dies, thread rolling dies, and slitting knives. The 1.5-inch diameter makes it appropriate for medium to heavy tooling stock where a solid cross-section is needed before machining to final geometry. It is appropriate for both job shop and production tool room settings.
Designed as a general-purpose D-2 air hardening tool steel drill rod suitable for cold-work tooling, die making, and precision machining stock applications in tool room and production environments.
Cutting and machining of tool steel rod should be performed by qualified machinists or tool and die makers using appropriate carbide or high-speed steel tooling. Secure workpieces firmly before sawing, turning, or milling to prevent movement. Heat treatment including hardening and tempering should follow established metallurgical procedures for D-2 steel and be performed by qualified personnel with proper equipment. Personal protective equipment including eye protection and appropriate gloves should be worn during all cutting and grinding operations.
