The VALUE COLLECTION 01520519 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. It accepts a No. 2 Morse Taper (2MT) shank, which seats directly into compatible drill press spindles, lathes, and milling machine quills without a separate chuck. The bit is ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish that provides mild corrosion resistance and reduces friction during cutting. Key geometry includes a 118-degree standard point angle and a web-thinned tip that reduces thrust load at the start of each hole. Overall length is 9.625 inches with a flute length of 5.75 inches, making it suitable for moderate-depth through-hole applications.
This drill bit is intended for use in machine shop environments, maintenance and repair operations, and production drilling setups where a Morse taper spindle is available. The 51/64-inch diameter (0.7969 inches decimal) is a common size for clearance holes, counterbore pilots, and close-tolerance bore preparation. Right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute geometry make it compatible with standard spindle rotation on drill presses, engine lathes, and knee mills. It is a general-purpose tool suited to ferrous and non-ferrous metals, thermoplastics, and wood composites.
Designed for use in any machine spindle, sleeve, or socket accepting a No. 2 Morse Taper (2MT) shank, including drill presses, engine lathes, and milling machines configured for 2MT tooling.
Installation and use should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained tradesperson familiar with taper shank tooling. Before inserting or removing the bit, power down the machine and confirm the spindle has come to a complete stop. Clean both the taper shank and the spindle bore of chips and oil before seating to ensure full contact and prevent slippage under load. Use a drift key and a soft mallet against the spindle drift slot to remove the bit safely — do not strike the cutting end of the bit.
