The VALUE COLLECTION 01520253 is a taper shank drill bit designed for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and similar materials. It accepts a Number 2 Morse Taper (2MT) shank, making it compatible with drill presses, lathes, and milling machines equipped with a matching taper socket. The cutting diameter is 25/64 inch (0.3906 inch decimal equivalent), and the bit is ground to a standard 118-degree point angle with web thinning to reduce thrust and improve centering. Construction is high-speed steel (HSS) with an oxide finish that provides light corrosion resistance during storage and use.
This drill bit is suited for machine-shop, maintenance, and fabrication environments where a taper shank drive is preferred over a straight shank. The 2MT interface transfers torque efficiently and self-releases under reverse rotation, making tool changes straightforward on compatible spindles. Typical applications include through-hole and blind-hole drilling in mild steel, aluminum, plastics, and similar workpiece materials. The right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flute geometry handle a broad range of general-purpose drilling tasks without requiring specialized coolant delivery, as coolant-through is not supported on this bit.
Designed for use in drill presses, lathes, and milling machines fitted with a Number 2 Morse Taper (2MT) spindle socket. Suitable for general-purpose drilling applications across common shop and maintenance environments.
Installation and removal should be performed by a machinist or qualified technician familiar with Morse Taper tooling. Ensure the spindle and taper shank are clean and free of chips or burrs before seating the bit — debris on the taper surfaces reduces grip and can cause runout. Use a drift pin and a soft mallet through the spindle drift slot to release the bit; never attempt to pry the taper free. Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling and follow applicable machine guarding requirements per OSHA 1910.212.
