The VALUE COLLECTION 01408137 is a taper length twist drill bit designed for general-purpose metal drilling in shop and field applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a black oxide finish, this bit provides corrosion resistance and reduced friction during cutting. The 118-degree standard point angle suits a wide range of common materials including mild steel, aluminum, and plastics. At 5.75 inches overall length with a 3.375-inch spiral flute, the taper length body gives greater reach than jobber-length drills while maintaining rigidity. A web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust and improves chip clearance. Right-hand cut spiral flutes evacuate chips efficiently during through-hole drilling.
This drill bit is suited for machine shop operations, maintenance and repair work, and fabrication tasks where a longer reach than a standard jobber drill is required. The straight-cylindrical shank seats in standard drill chucks on bench drills, drill presses, and handheld power drills. The 0.1850-inch diameter corresponds to wire gauge size number 13, a common size for clearance holes, pilot holes, and light metalworking applications across industrial and trade settings. No coolant-through capability, so this bit is intended for conventional drilling with external lubrication where needed.
Designed as a general-purpose taper length drill bit compatible with standard three-jaw drill chucks on bench drills, drill presses, and handheld power drills accepting a straight-cylindrical shank.
Secure the straight-cylindrical shank fully in the drill chuck and tighten with a chuck key before operation. Apply cutting fluid or appropriate lubricant when drilling ferrous metals to extend bit life and improve hole quality. Use drill press speed settings appropriate to the workpiece material and bit diameter to avoid overheating the HSS cutting edges. Inspect the cutting edges and web for wear before each use and replace if chipping or dulling is observed.
