The VALUE COLLECTION 01341171 is a reduced shank twist drill bit machined from high-speed steel for general-purpose drilling in metal, wood, and plastic. The full drill diameter is 1-17/64 inches (1.2656 inches decimal) while the shank is turned down to 1/2 inch, allowing the bit to fit standard 1/2-inch drill chucks despite its large cutting diameter. The 118-degree standard point angle is a proven geometry that centers easily on most materials without requiring a pilot hole. At 6 inches overall length with a 3-inch spiral flute, the bit provides sufficient reach for typical through-hole and deep-hole work in production and maintenance environments. An oxide finish helps with chip evacuation and mild corrosion resistance during storage.
This bit is suited for machinists, millwrights, and maintenance technicians working on metal fabrication, structural steel, or general repair tasks. The reduced shank design is practical when a large-diameter hole is needed but only a 1/2-inch chuck is available, which is common on portable and benchtop drill presses. Right-hand cutting direction and regular spiral flutes make this a straightforward fit for conventional drill press or hand-drill applications. No coolant-through capability is present, so external cutting fluid should be applied when drilling hard or thick steel stock.
Designed as a general-purpose reduced shank drill bit compatible with 1/2-inch keyed or keyless drill chucks on benchtop and floor-model drill presses, as well as heavy-duty portable drills rated for 1/2-inch shanks.
Install and remove this bit only with the drill press or drill fully powered off and unplugged. Secure the 1/2-inch shank firmly in the chuck jaws and verify runout before beginning the cut. When drilling ferrous metals, apply cutting fluid to extend bit life and improve finish quality. Do not exceed the recommended feed rate for high-speed steel tooling in the material being drilled.
