The VALUE COLLECTION 01188630 is a No. 63 wire-gauge jobber-length drill bit designed for precision small-diameter drilling in ferrous materials. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with an oxide coating for added surface hardness and mild corrosion resistance, this bit has a 0.0370-inch cutting diameter and a 118-degree standard point angle. The straight cylindrical shank and regular right-hand spiral flute make it compatible with standard drill chucks used in hand drills, drill presses, and CNC drilling operations. Web-thinned geometry reduces thrust at entry and improves chip evacuation in tight flute channels. Installed by machinists, pipefitters, and general fabricators working with small-diameter through-holes in steel and cast iron.
This bit is suited for general-purpose drilling in ferrous metals including steel and cast iron. At 1.5 inches overall length with a 0.625-inch flute length, it is a compact tool intended for shallow holes in confined workspaces or on thin stock. It is appropriate for production environments, maintenance and repair operations, and prototype fabrication where wire-gauge accuracy is required. No coolant-through capability is present, so external flood or mist cooling should be applied at higher spindle speeds to preserve tool life.
Designed as a general-purpose wire-gauge jobber drill bit for use in standard drill chucks accommodating a 0.0370-inch straight shank; suitable for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces across a broad range of drilling equipment.
Install and remove drill bits only when the spindle is fully stopped and the drill press or machine is powered down and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the straight shank firmly in the chuck and verify runout before beginning a drilling cycle. Apply external cutting fluid or mist coolant when drilling steel at elevated spindle speeds to prevent premature heat damage to the HSS cutting edges. Discard or resharpen bits showing chipped margins or burning discoloration at the tip to avoid inaccurate hole sizing.
