The VALUE COLLECTION 01165174 is a general-purpose jobber-length drill bit designed for high-volume drilling in metalworking, fabrication, and light manufacturing environments. Ground from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, it features a 118-degree standard point angle suited for starting on flat or pre-punched surfaces. The straight cylindrical shank accepts standard three-jaw chucks without requiring a special collet or adapter. At 4.125 inches overall length with a 2.875-inch flute length, it provides typical jobber proportions for general-hole applications. The right-hand spiral flute evacuates chips efficiently in soft and medium-density materials. This bit is installed by machinists, maintenance technicians, and general tradespeople using bench-top or handheld drill equipment.
The 01165174 is optimized for aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials including copper, brass, and soft plastics. The web-thinned, tapered-web construction reduces thrust force at the point, which is especially useful when drilling into aluminum plate, tubing, or sheet stock. It is a single-piece, individually packaged bit suited for shop-floor use, toolroom stock, or field service kits where a standard fractional size in the 0.250 to 0.300 inch range is needed. The regular spiral flute geometry is appropriate for continuous chip materials rather than brittle or cast materials that require a different flute design.
Designed as a general-purpose replacement or stock drill bit for use in standard three-jaw drill chucks accepting a 17/64 inch (0.2656 inch) straight cylindrical shank. Optimized for aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials.
Secure the straight shank firmly in a properly sized three-jaw or keyless chuck before operation. Ensure the drill press or handheld drill is powered off and the chuck is locked before changing bits. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or coolant when drilling aluminum to extend edge life, even though this bit does not include internal coolant-through passages. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use, as an uncoated HSS bit will show wear more visibly than coated alternatives.
