The USG 544822 is a water-based drywall primer formulated to provide a uniform prime coat over interior gypsum board, wood, and concrete surfaces. It equalizes surface absorption and texture variation across the substrate, reducing decorating problems caused by uneven porosity. The 544822 dries white in less than 30 minutes and can be topcoated within 1 hour, helping trades maintain a tight finishing schedule. Coverage runs 300 to 500 square feet per gallon, making the 5-gallon pail suitable for mid- to large-scale interior finishing work. The nonasbestos formulation is safe for handling in occupied or partially occupied spaces.
This primer is used in residential and commercial interior finishing applications where gypsum wallboard, wood substrate, or concrete surfaces require a consistent base before paint or texture coating. It is a standard first-coat product applied after taping and finishing compound have fully cured. Painting contractors, drywall finishers, and general contractors working interior buildouts regularly specify this product as part of a Level 5 or standard paint-ready finish sequence. It can be tinted to approximate the finish coat color when needed.
Designed for use over interior gypsum board, wood, and concrete surfaces as a first-coat primer prior to paint or texture topcoats.
Surface must be clean, dry, and free of dust, grease, and loose compound before application. Allow all joint compound and setting-type materials to cure fully before priming. Apply at recommended spread rates to avoid skipping coverage, which can result in uneven sheen in the finish coat. Clean all application equipment promptly with warm, soapy water after use.
