The UPONOR F4240500 is a 100-foot coil of AquaPEX crosslinked polyethylene tubing manufactured using the Engel process, which produces PEX-a — the most flexible grade of PEX available. With a nominal size of 1/2 inch, an inside diameter of 0.475 inches, and an outside diameter of 0.625 inches, this tubing is designed for potable water distribution, radiant floor heating, and hydronic systems. The Engel process cross-links the polyethylene molecules throughout the entire wall thickness, giving the tubing a strong shape memory that allows kinked sections to be restored with gentle heat. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians install this product in both new construction and remodel applications.
This tubing is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing and heating installations. Common applications include hot and cold potable water supply lines, radiant panel heating loops, snowmelt systems, and hydronic distribution manifolds. The white and red color coding helps differentiate hot and cold runs during rough-in. The 100-foot coil length is a standard quantity for single-zone radiant loops and branch water supply runs, reducing the number of fittings required and limiting potential leak points in the system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and new-installation tubing for use with standard 1/2 inch PEX expansion fittings and crimp or clamp fittings rated for PEX-a tubing in potable water and hydronic heating systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and ASTM F876/F877 standards for PEX tubing. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the system before cutting into any existing line. Use a dedicated PEX cutting tool to ensure clean, square cuts — do not use a hacksaw or utility knife. When using the Uponor ProPEX expansion method, allow expansion rings to contract fully onto fittings before pressure testing the system.
