The UNIWELD 70045 is a 5/8-inch OD swage punch designed for expanding the end of copper tubing to accept a fitting or a second tube of the same diameter. Swage punches drive into the tube end using a hammer or swaging lever tool, forming a bell-shaped socket without cutting or brazing fittings. The 70045 is sized for 5/8-inch OD copper tube, which corresponds to standard 1/2-inch nominal copper pipe used in refrigeration and HVAC line sets. HVAC and refrigeration technicians keep swage punches in their service kits for field fabrication of swaged joints on ACR and plumbing copper.
This swage punch is used in residential and light commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and plumbing applications wherever copper tubing joints are field-fabricated by swaging rather than by soldering separate couplings. Typical install scenarios include fabricating suction and liquid line connections, evaporator coil piping, and domestic water supply rough-in where copper tube swaging is permitted by local code. The 70045 is also cross-referenced as a replacement for Imperial part 93-S-10.
Designed for use with 5/8-inch OD copper tubing. Cross-referenced as an equivalent to Imperial part 93-S-10. Confirm tube OD before use, as ACR and plumbing copper sizing conventions differ.
Swage punches are installed by HVAC technicians, refrigeration mechanics, and licensed plumbers working with copper tube systems. Ensure the tube end is cut square, deburred, and cleaned before swaging to produce a leak-free joint. When using a hammer-drive method, support the tube firmly in the appropriate swaging block to prevent deformation. Follow local mechanical and plumbing codes for approved joint methods before swaging in lieu of brazed or soldered couplings.
