The TY-SEAL 181 is a single-hub cast iron service soil pipe designed for drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems in residential and commercial construction. Manufactured to ASTM A74 standards, this pipe features a hub-and-spigot end configuration that allows joints to be sealed with caulked lead and oakum or with compression gaskets conforming to ASTM C 564. The 2-inch nominal pipe measures 10 feet in length with a 0.17-inch wall thickness. The gray cast iron construction provides the durability and noise-dampening characteristics that licensed plumbers specify for below-grade and above-grade soil pipe installations.
This pipe is suited for residential and commercial plumbing drain and vent systems where cast iron soil pipe is required or preferred over plastic alternatives. It is commonly installed in multi-family, institutional, and commercial buildings where code, acoustics, or fire ratings drive material selection. The hub-and-spigot joint system accommodates both traditional lead-and-oakum caulked joints and modern compression gasket methods, giving installers flexibility depending on local code requirements and job conditions.
Designed for use in hub-and-spigot cast iron DWV piping systems where pipe and fittings conform to ASTM A74. Joints are compatible with compression gaskets conforming to ASTM C 564, including TY-SEAL gasket products, as well as traditional caulked lead-and-oakum joints.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with the applicable plumbing code, such as the IPC or local amendments. Shut off all water supply and ensure the drain system is depressurized before cutting into an existing line. For compression gasket joints, follow the gasket manufacturer's seating instructions; for lead-and-oakum joints, follow established caulking procedures. Support spacing for cast iron soil pipe should comply with code requirements for the pipe diameter and orientation.
