The TWECO 1040-1689 is a Professional No. 4 Classic Series air-cooled MIG gun rated at 400 amps with a 60% duty cycle using CO2 gas. The 15-foot lead cable delivers reliable wire feedability and connects via a Lincoln-style rear connection at the wire feeder. Designed for semi-automatic welding, it accepts wire sizes from 0.035 to 0.045 inches and features a three-layer conductor tube construction consisting of a copper tube, silicon-resin glass insulator, and metal jacket for durability. A silver-plated trigger with self-cleaning action and a fully insulated Mig-Kwik connection make the gun fast to connect and disconnect at the feeder. Licensed HVAC and welding technicians, fabricators, and maintenance professionals are the primary installers and operators of this gun.
The 1040-1689 suits medium to heavy-duty fabrication environments including production shops, maintenance and repair operations, farm and garage settings, and general shop jobs. The 60-degree metal jacket conductor tube swivels a full 360 degrees around the handle, allowing easy repositioning in tight or awkward weld joints. The oval-shaped handle is balanced to pivot at its center, reducing grip effort and operator fatigue during extended use. A gun hanger at the bottom of the handle provides a convenient resting point when the gun is not in use. Front-end consumables are interchangeable with the Tweco Spray Master series and Tweco Professional No. Series, reducing the number of replacement parts that need to be stocked.
Front-end consumables are interchangeable with the Tweco Spray Master series and Tweco Professional No. Series guns. The Lincoln-style rear connection is compatible with wire feeders requiring that connector style.
Installation and operation of this MIG gun should be performed by a qualified welding professional familiar with semi-automatic GMAW processes. Power down and de-energize the wire feeder before connecting or disconnecting the Mig-Kwik connection or swapping consumables. Inspect the Cablehoz, conductor tube, and contact tip for wear before each use and confirm the two ball-point screws securing the conductor tube and Cablehoz are tight. Follow applicable AWS safety standards and the wire feeder manufacturer guidelines for cable routing and strain relief placement.
