The TWECO 1040-1073 is a 450-amp, air-cooled MIG welding gun from the Spray Master Series, designed for demanding spray transfer and pulse welding applications. It accommodates wire diameters from 0.045 inches to 1/16 inch and ships with a 15-foot power cable featuring a Lincoln-style direct rear plug connection. The thick-walled, three-layer conductor tube provides superior electrical conductivity and acts as a heat sink, keeping handle temperatures manageable during extended runs. Rated at 80% duty cycle using argon and CO2 mixed gases, this gun is built for high-output production environments where uptime and reliability are critical.
The 1040-1073 suits professional welders in fabrication shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production welding environments. The ergonomic, compact handle is balanced to pivot at its center, reducing operator fatigue across varied welding positions. The extended trigger keeps the operator hand farther from the arc to reduce radiated heat exposure. Its field-repairable split-half handle case and mechanical cable connections lower maintenance time and inventory costs. Front and rear spring strain relief minimizes wire feed issues at both ends of the cable assembly. This gun is appropriate for use with straight CO2 or mixed shielding gases in spray and pulse transfer modes.
Features Lincoln-style rear connection for compatibility with Lincoln wire feeder configurations. Front-end consumables are interchangeable with the Tweco Classic No. Series, reducing the need to stock separate consumable inventories across gun platforms.
Installation and service should be performed by a qualified welding equipment technician or trained welder. Disconnect and de-energize the welder and wire feeder before connecting or servicing the gun. Verify the rear plug connection is fully seated and secure before initiating a weld. Inspect cable, strain relief, and trigger leads periodically for wear and replace components using the split-half handle access without returning the gun to a service center.
